Can I
bring my horse to school with me?
Yes. At Alfred
University students, faculty, staff and alumni
can arrange to board their horses at Equestrian Center.
What does it cost to board my horse?
$400 a
month as of August 2007.
What
does AU equine boarding include?
When you board a horse
at AU, your board includes grain (a 14% complete
pellet), grass hay, stall care, and daily turn out

I board my horse at AU, when can I ride it?
You
can ride your horse in classes,
or anytime there are university personnel on
grounds and the arena is not in use.

Does AU have an equestrian studies
major or minor?
Through
the “Track II" program you can
create your own major combining equestrian studies with any other field
of study to develop a major program designed to

You can minor in equestrian studies while majoring other areas such as business, pre-vet, pre-med, chemistry, art or psychology.
What are some examples of programs?
You may want to combine
equestrian studies and business to efficiently
organize your own training operation, or, open
a tack shop or, operate any number of small businesses
that sustain the horse industry. You may want
to develop your sales, accounting or marketing
skills so you would be able to work with a large
scale breeding operation. Other examples:
- Combine equestrian studies and psychology
to enable you to be certified in equine assisted
therapy.
- Combine equestrian studies and environmental
science to study field use, crop rotation, and
land management.
- Combine equestrian studies and chemistry
to prepare you for a career in equine pharmaceuticals.
- Combine equestrian studies and vet tech training.
What
does the AU equestrian studies program include?
The
equine program includes a framework of courses
for riders from the beginning level to riders already
competing on the national level. Students are able to select courses in either English or

Can I ride competitively?
AU fields IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) teams in English and Western riding.
