Alfred University accepts semester or year-long exchange applications from students attending our partner universities.
Application Procedure
If you would like to participate in the exchange program, the international office on your campus should contact our International Programs Office to let us know you have been nominated by your university for an exchange. We will then send you a link to our exchange application. Applications are due by April 15 for the fall semester and October 15 for the spring semester.
Some things you will need in order to apply:
- Proof of Health Insurance
Exchange students enter the United States on a J-1 visa, which requires health insurance coverage for the period of their studies. Our student health insurance meets the requirements for the Department of State. The cost of the health insurance will be added to your tuition bill and must be shown in your financial statement necessary for attendance. Visit our student health information page for more information.
- Proof of Financial Support
Students must provide a bank statement or a letter from their bank indicating they have the funds needed for their living expenses while at Alfred University. The estimated living expenses for the semester or year for which you are applying are provided on the application form. - A Copy of Your Passport
You will need to include a photocopy of the front page of your passport with your application.
The college or school you are applying to (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, College of Professional Studies, the School of Business, the School of Art & Design or the Inamori School of Engineering) may ask for additional materials and information, such as transcripts or a portfolio.
Housing and Meals
Alfred University is a small, residential campus. Most students live in residence halls, apartments or themed housing on-campus and eat their meals in one of our two campus dining halls. As an exchange student, you will be eligible for on-campus housing and a meal plan. Once you have been admitted to AU, we will send you information about the variety of housing and meal plan options available to you.
Course Offerings
Take a look at our course schedule to see all the different courses available in each subject area. Classes for the following semester are usually posted by the middle of October for the spring semester and the middle of March for the fall semester.
