Before Applying

Unofficial Transcript Evaluation

  • You may send an unofficial transcript for pre-evaluation only.

The office of Transfer admissions will preform a preliminary evaluation for the purpose of the students academic and financial decison making. The official transcript evaluation is performed by the office of the Registrar upon acceptance and deposit of a transfer student (and receipt of the final official transcript).

Apply

  • You may complete our online application. If you prefer, contact the Admissions Office and have an application mailed or faxed to you, or download a paper application here. We also accept the Common Application available at www.commonapp.org.
  • A $40 (US) fee is charged for each application. A check or money order, made payable to Alfred University, must accompany the application or it cannot be processed.
  • Request an official transcript from your high school or provide a notarized copy of your GED.
    Official high school transcripts must be submitted by your high school counselor or college advisor.
  • Request official transcripts from previous colleges and universities
    Alfred University must receive official transcripts from each university and college through which you have attempted college credit.
  • Send test scores
    If you are transferring fewer than 24 semester hours of credit, have your ACT or SAT I scores sent to the Office of Admissions by the testing agency. Our institutional College Board code for the official scores are: 2005 for Alfred University and 2160 for the New York State College of Ceramics (School of Art & Design and Inamori School of Engineering).
  • You must submit at least one letter of recommendation from your school counselor, a teacher, a coach, etc… Additional recommendations from work supervisors, pastors, etc…can be very helpful. Please print this reference
  • Submit an essay or personal statement. Your transfer essay will be somewhat different than your first-year student essay would have been. We like to know: "Why Alfred University?" and "What are your goals and plans for succeeding at AU?"
  • Applicants to the School of Art & Design – Submit Portfolio for review
  • U.S. Students: Submit AU Financial Aid Form and FAFSA
  • Receive your notice of admission and scholarship award

After Acceptance

  • Upon acceptance submit non-refundable $300.00 deposit by:
    May 1 for fall semester
    Dec. 15 for spring semester
  • Complete the all Financial Forms
  • Submit a Housing Agreement
  • Submit Medical forms
  • Register for an AU Network/Email Account. AU email is an official communication for our students, faculty and staff. You will be notified of financial aid, billing, and class registration through your AU email.
  • Meet with your academic advisor and register for classes
  • Attend Orientation
  • Visit MyAlfred student portal for more campus information
  • Visit the AU Bookstore! Here you will purchase books and supplies for classes and maybe a little something to show your AU pride!
  • International Students
    • Notify your transfer coordinator at your current college or university of your intent to transfer. You and they both have forms we will need for your Visa transfer information. Please email the AU Transfer Coordinator with any questions.
    • Contact the Office of International Programs and introduce yourself.
