Phone System Upgrade

ITS will upgrading the phone system on the following dates: March 29, April 5, 12, and 19. During those dates, a small number of phone users may experience a very short disruption of service (no more than a few minutes).

In addition, as part of this upgrade, a small number of campus users will be receiving a new handset. ITS will make every effort to contact you prior to those dates to let you know if you are receiving a new handset.

Instructional Support Services will be providing basic instruction on the new handsets and will publish class dates in Alfred Today.

Contribute Refresher Trainings

ITS is pleased to begin offering Contribute refresher trainings for editors of http://www.alfred.edu. AU's Web site has undergone many changes in the last year; these changes will be addressed in the training, along with review of editing guidelines.

Attendance at a refresher session will be mandatory for anyone who plans to continue editing pages on http://www.alfred.edu. Sessions will be offered throughout the spring semester.

Contribute refresher trainings are scheduled for the following dates:

Thursday 3/25, 10 a.m.
Wednesday 3/31, 9 a.m.
Thursday 4/1, 10 a.m.

Women of Influence -- Dr. Lori Quigley

Dr. Lori Quigley, member of the Seneca Nation (wolf clan), will speak on Thursday, March 18 on "Women's Power and Leadership in Native Cultures." Dr. Quigley's presentation will illuminate the role of women in native cultures, and how the authority of women is exercised in decision making within families, clans, tribes and nations.

Dr. Quigley serves as Associate Dean at Buffalo State.

Make Reservations for 'Off Broadway'

On Friday evening, March 26, (NOTE the change of date) the Alfred University Chamber Singers will present an evening of Broadway show tunes accompanied by delicious desserts. A fundraiser for the group's 2011 Tour, admission will be $10 per person. A cash bar will open at 7 p.m. with show time at 7:30.

Exciting, beautiful, whimsical, and humorous numbers from more musicals than one can list will be offered. Choral pieces include the exciting "Tonight" and the beautiful "Somewhere" from West Side Story; "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" from Guys and Dolls; "All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera; "All That Jazz" from Chicago; and a medley from Les Miserables. Solos, duets and small group pieces will also be presented.

Location will be Howell Hall on the AU campus. Only 80 tickets will be available for sale.

Reservations are required. To obtain tickets, send payment to the Chamber Singers, AU Division of Performing Arts, Alfred, NY 14802. Tickets will be held at the door or can be picked up in the Division Office in Miller. Tickets also will be sold Monday through Friday the week of the show in the Powell Campus Center from noon to 1 p.m.

Dodge Ball Tournament

Come out and show some support for the people of Haiti! On Friday, March 19 from 7-10 p.m. in the Davis Gym the HEOP program will be hosting a Dodge Ball Tournament with all proceeds donated to the RED CROSS and Relief Funds for Haiti victims.

Sign your team up at the CSI office in the Powell Campus Center, ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN. Prizes will be given to the winning team. T-shirts will be sold at the event.

Procurement Services and the ITS Department have set up a recycling program for the campus that accepts all brands of printer cartridges/toners.

These recycle boxes are located in the following areas:

Powell Campus Center Mailroom
Binns-Merrill
Scholes Library
Herrick Library
Science Center
Office Services

If you would like to recycle, please bring your recycling to one of the above locations.

Family Concert: Tom Sieling, Musician/Songwriter

Saturday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m.
Nancy Howe Auditorium at the David A. Howe Public Library, 155 N. Main St., Wellsville

Join us for an interactive musical program of fun and songs with Tom Sieling, a songwriter/musician who performs regularly for children as well as adults. He has delighted audiences in libraries as well as many other venues for the past 20 years.

This library-sponsored concert is free and open to everyone.
