Domenic Argentieri, class of '99 (B.A. Communication Studies), works for Computer Publishing Group in Boston, which publishes the computer magazine One and an online magazine called WebServer Online. Domenic works with the managing editor and design staff to edit and monitor the progress of both publications. Domenic has also worked for Prentice Hall Publishing. Domenic feels that living and learning in Alfred definitely prepared him for Boston, saying, "No matter how big the city, you can always feel intimate and secure with the people and places around you, thanks to the small-town trust and understanding Alfred nurtures in you."
Darcia Bowman, class of '95 (B.A. Communication Studies), is a reporter and staff writer for the Washington D.C. based national newspaper Education Week. Darcia writes about "new arrangements" in K-12 public education, such as charter schools, private-school voucher programs, and private companies running public schools for profit. Darcia says Alfred prepared her well for a career in journalism, particularly with the school newspaper, Fiat Lux, where she served as editor-in-chief during her last two years of school. Darcia enjoys her job because it allows her to travel around the country and "meet people with interesting ideas about how to best educate children." Darcia feels that AU's greatest asset is "its dedicated, talented, caring faculty."
Chad Bowman, class of '94 (B.A. Communication Studies), is a reporter for a Washington, D.C. news organization, the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc., where he covers international trade and health law. In addition, he attends law school evenings at Georgetown University. Chad feels that his background at AU has helped him in his career. He says, "Although I went to Alfred University as a business student, that changed after I joined the student newspaper and fell in love with journalism. But a business background meant that after graduation I was one of the few reporters in the newsroom who could read an annual report." While at AU, Chad wrote for the newspaper and was editor for two years. He was also a Writing Center tutor. In 1994 Chad was selected as Outstanding Male Senior and spoke at commencement.
Ron Bel Bruno, class of '86 (B.A. General Studies), is the senior editor for Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine, responsible for the creation and editing of the news and entertainment sections, as well as selected features. While at Alfred, Ron was the editor in chief for the Fiat Lux from 1984-85. He spent a year each as treasurer and president of his fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau, and was an Outstanding Senior nominee. Ron enjoyed Alfred's eclectic student body, and the small intimate social atmosphere. He says, "To this day, I draw upon administrative experiences I had at Alfred when I deal with management, professional peers, and my employees. It also provided a place for me to make mistakes. |
