Bergren Forum

The Bergren Forum sponsored by the Division of Human Studies will be meeting on Thursday February 16th at 12:10 PM in the Nevins Theatre, Powell Campus Center.

Bring a brown bag lunch, coffee and tea will be provided.

Speaker: Andy Eklund
Topic: "Slavery, Immigration, and Women’s Suffrage Through the Lens of Monsters".

Assoc. Prof of Chemistry Andy Eklund will offer an overview of racism, xenophobia, and women’s suffrage/gender inequality in the USA using the medium of monsters from colonial times through the Civil War and into the 20th century.

Writing Center Workshop: Writing About Art

- Location: Herrick Library Seminar Room
(5:15 PM - 6:15 PM)
Having difficulty translating what you see in that image or sculpture into language? This workshop will cover some of the key stages in the process of writing about art. We will cover strategies for descriptive writing and visual analysis, thesis development, and essay organization. A part of the workshop will be dedicated to round table discussion, so specific questions and concerns are encouraged! Free pizza provided. RSVP to fcobb@alfred.edu so we know how much to order.
