Pine Street Closed

- Location: Pine Street, Alfred
(8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
On Sept. 14, 2012, Pine Street will be closed to traffic due to construction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All members of the campus community needing to access the north end of the Alfred University campus will need to use the Saxon Drive entrance.

Engineering BBQ

- Location: Pavilion outside Harder Hall

Come to the sidewalk outside of Harder beneath the new pavilion to socialize with friends and professors while grabbing some lunch on Friday the 14th. All engineering students and faculty are invited and the event is being sponsored by Material Advantage and Keramos.

Lecure of Chinese Songs

- Location: Room 302, Performing Art Center

Ms.Hong Zhang, a Senior Lecturer of Chinese at Binghamton University, will give a lecture on Chinese songs in Room 302, Performing Art Center at 3 p.m. on Sept. 14. It is open to public.

Hong Zhang holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Binghamton University, SUNY, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the founder and director of Song of Silk, a performance group that aims to bridge East and West.

Zhang has been an active soloist in many concerts and groups, including the Shanghai Philharmonic Society, the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Eastern Silk.

In addition, Zhang gives lectures, recitals and workshops on Chinese vocal music and culture nationwide.

Opening Receptions: Three Shows

"Subversive Turf" curated by the ARTH Club
is interested in exploring the geography of social issues and politics of race, gender, class, religion and sexuality. Our intent is to engage the Alfred community of artists and scholars in a discourse often dismissed for being too political
or taboo.

"Queer" curated by Julia Berbling
will contain works done by "queer" (lgbtq) students, faculty, and recent alumni of Alfred. QUEER’s intention is to question popular cultural and social beliefs of the "queer" community.

"The Painting Club Show" curated by the Painting Club, is a collection of two-dimensional works done by club members.

ACW Open Mic

- Location: Susan Howell Hall

Friday, Sept. 14 7-9 P.M. in Susan Howell Hall: Open Mic, brought to you by Alfred’s Creative Writers. People sharing work that they are passionate about and snacks, what more could you ask for?

Melody of China

- Location: Miller Theatre
(7:30 PM - 9:30 PM)
A concert featuring Chinese folk songs and traditional Chinese musical instruments will be held at the Miller theater at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. The performers will include musicians from Alfred University, Binghamton University, and the North America Chinese Music Ensemble from New York City. It is sponsored by Confucius Institute and the Division of Performing Arts. It is free and open to the public.

FILM: ’The Avengers’

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.

9/14 & 15 - Volleyball AWAY at New Paltz

- Location: SUNY New Paltz, New Paltz, NY

AU Volleyball will be at the SUNY New Paltz tournament on Fri, 9/14 and Sat, 9/15. Match times are 4 & 8 on Friday and Noon and 4pm on Saturday.
