Tai Chi Master is Back in Alfred!

- Location: Village Bandstand
(9:00 AM - 11:00 AM)
Tai Chi master Guigang Liu is back in Alfred and will give 3 sessions of Tai Chi classes from May to October! The schedule is as follows:

Spring Tai Chi class: 6 weeks from May 13 to June 21, 9-11 a.m. weekdays. Yijin Jing, Five-animal Exercises, 24-form Tai Chi, and Swimming dragon Tai Chi will be taught and practiced.

Summer Tai Chi class: 6 weeks from July15 to Aug. 23, 9-11 a.m. weekdays. "Swimming dragon Tai Chi Sword" will be added for this session.

Fall Tai Chi class: 6 weeks from Sept. 2 to Oct. 11, 9-11 a.m. weekdays. There will be Tai Chi Performance in mid-September for Moon Festival Celebration.

Place: Village Bandstand on Main Street in the Village of Alfred

These classes are sponsored by Confucius Institute at Alfred University and are free to the public!

Walk-in Hours at the CDC

- Location: The Steinheim, Career Development Center
(10:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Alfred University’s Career Development Center has extended walk-in hours for the 2013-14 academic year -Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can drop in with any career-related question and see the next available counselor for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on availability.

’Chris Gustin: Masterworks in Clay’

This retrospective exhibition of the ceramic work of Chris Gustin comes to us from the Fuller Art Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Chris graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA in 1975 and received an MFA from the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred in 1977. He taught for 23 years at Boston University, the Swain School of Design, and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth where he is now Professor Emeritus.

Zumba Fitness Classes

Join the Party! Zumba Fitness classes, taught by Denise Eck, will be held from 4:45-5:45 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at Davis Gym. Classes are $3 each for Alfred University faculty, staff and students. No need to sign up in advance. Just show up and dance!

Moon Festival Celebration

- Location: Susan Howell Hall

Confucius Institute will celebrate Moon Festival in Susan Howell Hall on Sept. 19, Thursday. A traditional feast with Chinese dishes and moon cakes will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the first floor. There will be a Tai Chi Performance starting at 7 and a faculty recital featured with Luanne Crosby and Daisy Wu from 7:30 to 9 on the second floor.

This event is open to the public and it is free! And GIFTS would be given during the event!

Constitution Day Panel - Presidential Power and Combat

- Location: Nevins Theater

On Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Nevins Theater panel discussion: "The President’s Power to Commit Americans to Combat: Constitutional, Moral, and Practical Considerations" with insight from Dr. Chris Churchill, Dr. Robert Heineman, Dr. Gary Ostrower, Dr. Jeff Sluyter-Beltrão, and Dr. Emrys Westacott.

The public is invited and admission is free. The event is commemorating Constitution Day.

Study Abroad

The study abroad deadline for Spring Semester 2014 is Oct 1. But it’s not too late! A general information session on studying abroad will be held to answer all your questions. Anyone interested in studying abroad (not just those wanting to go in Spring 2014) are welcome!
