Chinese Culture Day

Taichi Group of Alfred Community: Taichi Performance

Dragon dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture. It is most often seen in festive celebrations. Dragons are believed to bring good luck to people, together with great power, dignity, fertility, wisdom and auspiciousness. During the Dance, 12-14 performers will be holding the dragon up on poles. They will raise and lower the Dragon making the movement as they wind through the crowds to the sounds of horns, drums and gongs.

The Taichi Group of Alfred Community will practice different sets of Taichi: the 24-Step sequence, the Five-Animal exercises and the Youlong Quan. The slow, soft, and continuously flowing movements Tai Chi, is not only an ancient martial art, but also has been widely acknowledged as an effective health exercise, and the cultivation of one’s internal energy. The number of Taichi learners in our Alfred-area is over 60.

Join Alfred University’s Yoga Club in meditative practices, such as yoga, T’ai Chi, and meditation, every Friday (except those before breaks) at 5 p.m. in Miller 301. Open to all!

Pumpkin Carving

- Location: Kenyon-Allen Room, PCC 2nd Floor

ISSO Pumpkin Carving

- Location: Kenyon-Allen Room. Powell Campus Center

There will be about 25-30 pumpkins in total. You are welcome to bring your own pumpkin or work on a pumpkin with a friend/partner. Carving tools and stencils will be provided.

There will be a Pumpkin Carving Contest to determine who has the BEST pumpkin-carving designs (funniest, most artistic, and scariest). There will be prizes for the winners.

JOIN US for an afternoon of pumpkin festivities!

Friday Night Hike

- Location: Pine Hill Trails

Join us for ~3 mile hike on the Pine Hill Trails. We meet every Friday at 6pm on the 1st floor of Powell Campus Center next to the mail room. The hike takes a little over one hour.

Zombie Event

- Location: Davis Gym
(7:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
"Left for Dead: Zombie Survival" - Come help the Alfred Nerf Squad as they defend Davis Gym from a zombie invasion! Admission is free and all guns/ammo/equipment will be provided. Entrance is on street level, across
from Harder Hall.
