Writing Center Workshop: Art History

- Location: Seidlin 016

The Writing Center will be hosting an art history workshop on Friday, Nov. 8 at 12:20 p.m. We will focus on elements critical to creating a research project or paper, specifically dealing with developing a clear thesis and a well organized outline.

This workshop is open to students working in any art history level. Pizza will be served!

The workshop will take place in the computer lab in the basement of Seidlin Hall, Seidlin 016. Email fcobb@alfred.edu to sign up so we know how much pizza to order.

Environmental Studies Seminar- Hydrofracturing

Alfred University Yoga Club

Join Alfred University’s Yoga Club in meditative practices, such as yoga, T’ai Chi, and meditation, every Friday (except those before breaks) at 5 p.m. in Miller 301. Open to all!

Friday Night Hike

- Location: Pine Hill Trails

Join us for ~3 mile hike on the Pine Hill Trails. We meet every Friday at 6pm on the 1st floor of Powell Campus Center next to the mail room. The hike takes a little over one hour.

AU’s Guide to Getting it On

- Location: Judson Leadership Center

Lily Wolf and Pam Schu presents AU’s Guide to Getting it On, a moderation discussion about emotionally and physically healthy sex.

Trip: Wellsville Dinner & a Movie

- Location: Wellsville, NY

Come take a complimentary shuttle bus to downtown
Wellsville for a Friday night of activity. There are several restaurants, a first-run movie theater and the Wellsville Creative Arts Center to keep you entertained for the evening.

Shuttle will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scale and Obscura

Obscura - Displayed in the Catwalk
Curator: Rachel Chicaguala
Artists: Rachel Chicaguala and collaborators: Amelia Maslen, Charlotte Ryan, Kate Schneider, Isabel Bowser, Liv Fritz, Brian Arnold, Lydia McCarthy, potentially others contributors.

Obscura - The camera obscura is the first and most basic camera, this lens-less camera can be constructed anywhere. The camera obscura blocks out all light except for a single circle the size of a quarter, anything outside of that circle is projected into the camera creating a printable image.

The Obscura show will have a full size camera obscura, large enough to sit in. The piece will be interactive and viewers are invited to go into the camera and inquire as to how it works. Prints made with the camera will be displayed and additional prints may be taken during the shows duration.

Nov. 9, at 1 p.m., there will be a demo on how to make your own camera obscura.

Scale- Displayed on the main gallery floor
The show Scale will present works that investigate various levels of size, shape, and material. Pieces in Scale will be constructed to specifically fit within the dimensions of the Turner Gallery.

Human Vs. Zombies @ AU

- Location: Alfred Campus

Humans vs. Zombies is a game of tag. All players begin as humans, and one is randomly chosen to be the "Original Zombie." The Original Zombie tags human players and turns them into zombies. Zombies must tag and eat a human every 72 hours or they starve to death and are out of the game.

Safety Information:

Safety Rules
Rules created for the safety of all players are strictly enforced. Violation of safety rules will result in a ban from the game.
1. No realistic looking weaponry. Blasters/Nerf guns are prohibited. Only socks will be used to stun zombies.
2. Players may not use cars or play where there is traffic.
3. No head shots allowed. Do not throw socks at the zombie’s head. Hits to the head don’t count as a stun.

Safe Zones
Some areas on campus are "no play zones," where the game is permanently suspended. These areas include:
• All academic and non-academic buildings
• Bathrooms
• Dorm rooms
• Dining Halls

Both players must have both feet outside of the no play zones in order to tag/stun.

Players:
Players of the game will be identified by a purple or gold bandana tied to an arm, leg or around their head.
