Alfred Literary Festival Reading by Dan O’Brien

Playwright and poet Dan O’Brien will read from his work tonight in Scholes Library. A reception and book signing will follow.

Dan O’Brien is a poet and playwright living in Los Angeles. His play, "The Body of an American," received its European premiere in January 2014 at the Gate Theatre, London, and received the inaugural Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama, the PEN Center USA Award for Drama, and the L. Arnold Weissberger Award.

Previous plays by Dan O’Brien have premiered at Second Stage Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Geva Theatre Center, Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, and elsewhere.

O’Brien’s debut poetry collection, "War Reporter," won the 2013 Fenton Aldeburgh Prize, and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, both in the UK.

’Betrayal,’ A Play by Harold Pinter

Come see this intriguing play as it follows a long-term extramarital affair and love triangle. This "memory play" also runs in reverse chronology, making the end of the play the beginning of the affair.

Directed and performed by senior theater majors Bellisant Corcoran-Mathe, Darren Palmer, and Jamal Welcome, this play is the capstone in these students’ theatrical studies.

Come enjoy this award-winning play!Free admission to all.

This event is funded by the Smith Crapsey Award Scholarship and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
