First Women's and Gender Studies Roundtable

- Location: Judson Leadership Center

The first Women's and Gender Studies Roundtable of the new academic year will be from 12:20 p.m. - 1:10 p.m., Friday, September 8, in the Judson Leadership Center. Please join us in welcoming Abby Griffith, the new Director of the Judson Leadership Center. Abby Griffith's topic will be: "'Are You Girls Lost?': A Brief Introduction to Practical Travel Planning for Women Who Wanderlust." Whether you're planning your first solo weekend away or dreaming of a longer trip abroad, join Griffith for some "real talk" about the unique challenges and advantages women encounter when traveling off the beaten path. She'll share her experiences with everything from street harassment and salmonella to discussing Diva Cups and Hillary Clinton in the Vietnamese highlands. Come for the discussion of how to travel more ethically, stay for the advice on how to navigate nudity on night trains!
The Women's and Gender Studies roundtables are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Environmental Studies Speaker- Aaron Heminway

It is that time again for our annual Environmental Studies Speaker Series to begin. Please join us for this week’s speaker- Aaron Heminway, who is a New York State Park Biologist I, in the Allegany Region. He will give a talk on “NYS Parks- Public Lands and Biological Preserves”. His talk will be about the parks in his assigned region and the balance he tries to achieve by helping to preserve the flora and fauna while reconciling ecological integrity with development and public use.

Journey West will perform Friday Sept. 8, at 8 pm, at Holmes Auditorium in Harder Hall on the campus of Alfred University. The ensemble will be joined by refugee musicians from Iraq and Syria, who will share their remarkable stories and music.--- Concert is FREE
