Sally McCubbin Glass Design Demo

- Location: Hot Glass Studio
(9:00 AM - 11:00 AM)
Demo: April 5 9-11 a.m.
Hot Glass Studio.

I maintain a progressive outlook, but find delight in the past. I am a desperate but idle environment. I have many shoes, but choose to go barefoot. The contradictions of my being are painfully evident in my choice of livelihood. I am a maker in an overcrowded world of objects. My work is therefore dependent upon the aspect of quality. I make unusual objects to promote unusual thoughts.

I am interested in the study and ideology of what’s happening today. My creative pursuits, initiatives as a teacher and ideals as a designer are informed by the current culture that surrounds me. I have long questioned the inconsistencies between my own thinking and that of the general social perspective of North America. it is because of this disconnect, that I find strength in creativity and innovative thought. I believe positive cultural change is in the hands of the inspired and the radical.

Exploding Boundaries

- Location: Fosdick Nelson Gallery
(11:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Exploding Boundaries: Faculty and Staff Exploration in Drawing

Exhibition Dates: through April 5
Location: Fosdick-Nelson Gallery

The Fosdick Nelson Gallery presents Exploding Boundaries, an exhibition highlighting the practice of drawing in the School of Art and Design at Alfred University. The exhibition brings together the work of over fifty faculty and staff artists - a significant accomplishment, as an event of this scope, featuring our community of makers, is unprecedented at the school.

The concept for the show was conceived by the Gallery Committee in the fall of 2012; Joseph Scheer, Committee Chair and Professor of Printmaking and Gerar Edizel, Professor of Art History, along with Sharon McConnell, Gallery Director organized the exhibition.

Insight, a student drawing exhibition, juried by Kathy Vajda will open on the first floor of the Turner Gallery in conjunction with Exploding Boundaries. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend. The exhibition runs through April 5, 11-4 weekdays and 1-3 weekends.

A full range of drawing methodologies are reflected in the exhibition and in the one- line statements collected from faculty and staff defining the role of drawing in their personal practice. The definitions range from the practical to the philosophical, and as the show title implies, the work on display explodes the conventional boundaries of drawing so that visitors might reassemble the practice in a new light for a more expansive view.
