"Evading Unseen Influence"

Outliers are common problems in statistical analyses, but detection is not straightforward; standard estimators tend to reflect outlying behavior, making outliers appear typical.

In this talk, I will introduce principal component analysis (PCA), explain its mathematical underpinnings, and describe how it may be utilized to obtain robust estimators independent of outlying influence.

This talk is intended for an audience with a basic understanding of matrix and vector algebra.

Kelly Kirtland will be giving a Research Talk on Tuesday April 15 in Myer’s Hall room 334 at 1:20 p.m.
