‘Courage,’ an Alan Littell novel, to be released Tuesday
A new novel by Alan Littell, AU class of 1953, will be released Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, by Thomas Dunne Books, a division of St. Martin’s Press. “Courage” is a 160-page, hardcover publication. “Those with salt water in their veins will not want to pass this up,” writes Publisher’s Weekly. “Littell’s prose is stark and cold, evoking the howling wind and lashing sea … “ says Library Journal. The setting for “Courage” is 1950, in the North Atlantic, west of Ireland. Here the destinies of two ships fuse. One, an English tramp, breaks apart in a winter storm. Five survivors cling to the wreckage. Chance puts the novel’s central character, an officer of a nearby liner, at the helm of a boat that battles its way through the mountainous waves in a desperate attempt to reach the castaways.
