ALFRED UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION (AU AP)
To download and print the 2008-2009 AU AP, click here. To be considered for University need-based aid and University-awarded federal need-based aid, students must complete the AU AP each year.
For freshmen, transfer students, and new graduate students, the AU AP is automatically mailed with Alfred University's Financial Aid Application Packet upon receipt of their application for admission. Return the completed AU AP to the Alfred University Student Financial Aid Office.
For returning undergraduate and graduate students, AU AP's are available at the Financial Aid Office in December. To apply for University need-based aid and University-awarded federal need-based aid, returning undergraduate students must complete the Alfred University Financial Aid Application (AU AP) by March 15 for the following academic year.

FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)
You may access FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To apply for University need-based aid and University-awarded federal need-based aid, undergraduate students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to select the appropriate academic year. We encourage students and their parents to use FAFSA-on-the-Web.
The U.S. Department of Education is recommending that students file electronically using FAFSA-on-the-Web. The electronic FAFSA is faster and also edits the FAFSA information prior to transmitting, eliminating many common application mistakes.
The electronic FAFSA needs to be signed just like a paper FAFSA. You may print out the FAFSA-on-the-Web signature page, provide original signatures, and mail it to the federal processor. Or, you can use your unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) as your electronic signature. Dependent students will need a PIN for themselves and their parent(s). If you do not have a PIN (or lost your PIN), you can apply for one at www.pin.ed.gov.
If you are not able to file electronically, you may file a paper FAFSA. A paper FAFSA is available at high school guidance offices, many public libraries, or from the AU Financial Aid Office.
To ensure your FAFSA information is forwarded to Alfred University, you must indicate Alfred University as one of your college choices on the FAFSA. Alfred University's code and address are:

NEW YORK STATE TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP) APPLICATION
New York State residents will initiate the TAP application process by filing the appropriate academic year's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC) will then respond to students who indicate they are NY State residents and list a NY State College/University on the FAFSA.
FAFSA Web Filers
Students who complete a FAFSA-on-the-Web will be prompted to complete a Web-based Express TAP Application (ETA) at the same time. Some items on the Web ETA will already be completed, based on the FAFSA information. Be sure to carefully review every pre-entered ETA item for accuracy and complete all applicable blank ETA questions. Note: You will have 30 days to complete the FAFSA-linked ETA on the Web. If you do not complete the Web application, a paper ETA will be mailed to you.
Paper FAFSA Filers and FAFSA on the Web filers who do not complete the Web ETA.
First time TAP applicants will receive a preprinted paper Express TAP Application (ETA) after filing the FAFSA. To receive consideration for a TAP award, the ETA must be signed and returned to NYSHESC, even if you are not making changes.
Renewal TAP applicants will receive either an Award Certificate and Change Form or an Express TAP Application (ETA), depending on their status with NYSHESC.
IMPORTANT: Students should carefully review the Web ETA, paper ETA, and/or Change Form to correct and update information derived from the FAFSA and complete all applicable blank ETA questions. Be sure to promptly file necessary corrections. Make a special effort to check the following items:
Correct the income information to correspond with the net taxable income reported on the student's and/or parents' New York State tax return. Refer to the ETA/Change Form instructions for the proper tax return line number based on the type of tax return filed.
Be sure the proper school code is listed for Alfred University for both the Fall and Spring Semesters.
Alfred's code is 0020 for undergraduates in Liberal Arts; Business; Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and 0960 for all other undergraduates programs.
Alfred's code is 5200 for graduate students in Master of Arts/Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology, Doctor of Psychology in School Psychology, Master of Science in Education/ Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling, Master of Professional Studies in Community Services Administration(CSA), Master of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, and Master of Business Administration(MBA) programs.
Alfred's code is 5560 for graduate students in Master of Fine Arts; Master of Science in Ceramic Engineering, Glass Science, Materials Science and Engineering, and Biomedical Materials Engineering Science; and Doctor of Philosophy in Ceramics, Glass Science, and Materials Science and Engineering programs.
Make sure the number of other family members who will be enrolled as full-time students during the upcoming academic year is correct.
