Responsibilities
and Duties:
The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the Foundations Division at the assistant professor rank. The Foundations Division is an innovative, broad-based, full year introduction to contemporary art practices for all first year students in the School of Art and Design. The program features collaboratively taught courses, and a Wednesday course that gathers together all students for large-scale collaborative projects, films, and visiting artist lectures. The Foundations Division seeks a dynamic artist working in the field of contemporary art to be a member of a first year program that provides a rich innovative learning experience which addresses relevant contemporary, historical and theoretical issues for young artists. Candidates will have a deep relationship with drawing, both as a traditional process and as a versatile and expansive contemporary vehicle for expression. Candidates must possess the ability to teach across disciplines as well as demonstrate proficiency in the field in which their own practice is situated.

The successful candidate will be an energetic forward-thinking individual interested in working with a creative faculty team to facilitate programs, develop curriculum, mentor and advise students, conduct assessment and reviews, be versed in innovative teaching methods and uses of technologies within the studio classroom. Experience with collaboration, either in a teaching context or within an art practice, is highly desired.
   
Requirements: Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design, an active professional creative practice, including a record of exhibitions and projects beyond the local and regional level, and previous college-level teaching experience.
