Responsibilities
and Duties:
The Wood Shop Technician enables the School of Art and Design faculty and students to create art by building and maintaining a world-class wood shop facility to support the School’s world class programs in art.
The Wood Shop Technician is an expert in all aspect of woodworking and the safe use of materials and safe operation of equipment. The individual in this position provides technical and safety instruction, including safety proficiency training for all students using the wood shop. He or she develops and supervises a schedule of weekly "open shop" hours and training sessions each semester and during the Summer Session. He or she will supervise woodshop technicians, graduate assistants, and part time woodshop assistants. He or she will preside over weekly open shop hours, provide technical assistance to shop patrons, and enforce proper and safe usage of equipment and facility. The Wood Shop Technician is responsible for maintaining currency with new developments in equipment and the field and regularly recommending updates to the wood shop facility and use to the Division and the School.
   
Requirements: Experience: Demonstrable experience, proficiency, and technical knowledge with a wide variety of woodworking equipment and woodshop operation, maintenance, and health and safety requirements.

Organizational/managerial experience required. Experience supervising an art program woodshop at the university level preferred.

Additional Knowledge/Skills: Must be well organized, and able to work with a wide range of people (faculty, students, staff) with a variety of skill levels. Must be familiar with and remain current on knowledge of the health and safety standards in the woodworking field and woodworking equipment. Adaptability, analysis, attention to detail, collaboration, dependability, safety awareness, organizational sensitivity and teamwork are characteristics central to this position.
