Carnegie Hall

Alfred University's Carnegie Hall houses the President's and Provost's offices, as well as those of the vice presidents for Student Affairs and Business and Finance. AU students find their way to Carnegie Hall - with or without practice - because the business office is located on the ground floor.

Former Alfred University student Melvil Dewey, originator of the Dewey Decimal System that was used by many libraries to classify their collections, and President Boothe Colwell Davis persuaded Andrew Carnegie to fund the construction of the building as a library. When the University's collection outgrew the space, Carnegie Hall was converted to administrative offices.
