Alumnus creating 'The Religion' for exhibit in Fosdick-Nelson Gallery

“The Religion,” a new installation by Michael Jones McKean, Alfred University (AU) alumnus and 2010 Guggenheim Fellow, opens Friday, Nov. 1 with a reception from 7-9 p.m. in The Fosdick-Nelson Gallery, Harder Hall, School of Art and Design. The public is welcome; admission is free.

International pianist to bring signature Mozart, Beethoven to Miller Theater stage

Pianist Andreas Klein, a distinguished international performer, will play works from Beethoven, Schumann, Debussy, and Liszt in Alfred University’s (AU) Miller Theater on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. The concert is free and is sponsored by the Division of Performing Arts.

There will be 'Much Ado About Nothing' in the CD Smith Theater

Alfred University students, staff, and faculty are collaborating to present William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,’ to be performed each evening Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 6-9 at 8 in CD Smith III Theatre, Miller Performing Arts Center.

McMahon Lecturer to focus remarks on ceramic systems in energy applications

Focusing on ceramic systems in energy applications, Alfred University’s (AU) 2013 John F. McMahon Lecture will be presented by Dr. Rajendra Bordia, professor and chairman of the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Clemson University, Clemson, SC.

Environmental speaker to focus on hydrologic processes

Dr. Karen Salvage, associate professor of geological sciences and environmental studies at Binghamton University, will be presenting “Modeling watershed hydrology: Integrating hydrologic processes” as a part of Alfred University’s (AU) Environmental Studies Speaker Series.

Art dean elected to serve on national administrators council, executive board

Leslie Bellavance, dean of the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the National Council of Arts Administrators (NCAA) and as secretary of the Executive Board of NCAA.

Tailgate then watch Courage Bowl game!

Join fellow alumni, parents, and friends Saturday, Nov. 16 as the Alfred University Saxons make their first-ever appearance in the ninth annual Courage Bowl against vs. the St. John Fisher Cardinals.

Alumni, artist friends present cast metal exhibit in Cohen

Eight alumni, friends, and fellow artists are showcasing their recent cast metal works in an exhibition called “Future Cast” on display at Alfred University’s Cohen Center for the Arts Gallery, Main Street, Alfred, through Thursday, Dec. 5.

Women's Center bestows annual leadership awards

Alfred University (AU) students Audrey Arnold, a junior environmental studies major, and Alexandria Scott, a sophomore psychology major, are recipients of the 2013 Alpha Kappa Omicron (AKO) Social Change Leadership Award for junior-level women and the AKO Leadership Achievement Award for sophomore women, respectively. 

AU/ASC team to challenge Wizards in charity basketball game

The second annual AIDS Charity Basketball game between the Harlem Wizards and the Alfred StUn is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. in the McLane Gym at Alfred University (AU). Tickets for the event are $5 may be purchased online at http://culturalunity.org/aidscharity; children under age 4 will be admitted  free of charge.

Students visit Stock Exchange, Financial District historical sites, investment firm

Eleven Alfred University students traveled to New York City this fall to visit the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) accompanied by Theresa Gunn, assistant professor of accountancy, and Mark Lewis, visiting instructor of business.

Three collaborate on solar research article

An Alfred University (AU) professor, a former AU visiting professor, and an educator from the School of Public Health at Wuhan University in Wuhan, China recently collaborated on a paper featured in Energy Policy, an international journal of political, economic, planning, environmental, and social aspect of energy.

Alumna artist donates 'historical' painting

Following her Featured Artist Show at the David A. Howe Library in Wellsville, AU alumna Betty W. Sweet ’80 recently donated a painting of the historic York’s Corner Store, one of the earliest buildings constructed in the town of Willing in Allegany County, to the Allegany County Historical Society.

Dean of students participating in webinars on bullying, hazing

Norm Pollard, Alfred University dean of students, will be participating in two webinars within the next several weeks focusing on bullying and hazing within college campus communities.

Staffer honored to run in NYC Marathon

For her 60th birthday year in 2010, Rosalie Mulhollen decided to begin to run and participate in local 5K races. In September 2010, she ran her first half-marathon in Virginia Beach with her sisters-in-law and niece, then decided to work towards running a full marathon.

Hall of Fame Committee seeks nominations for 2014 inductees

The Alfred University Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee is accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
