Empire 8 Softball Championship schedule announced

The Empire 8 Conference has announced seedings and the schedule for the conference championship tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, at Ithaca College.

Two seniors receive SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence

Alfred University (AU) seniors Eric Teller and Gavin Tougher are recipients of the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. They received their awards in Albany earlier this spring from SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.

Sociology professor's comments included in NY Times article on infertility and race

Performing Arts students ready weekend 'Rush of Recitals'

The end of the spring semester is show time for performing arts students at Alfred University (AU). The extended weekend of Thursday, May 1 through Sunday, May 4 will feature four separate and distinctive student recitals. All programs are open to the public admission-free. 

AU to host summer youth soccer camp

Alfred University will host a soccer camp for youngsters in two age groups this summer.

The Western New York Soccer Academy will hold the camp on the AU campus the week of June 30-July 4. It will be offered in two groups: boys and girls ages 4-7; and boys and girls ages 8-16.

Alumna offers alumni ticket bonus to One World performance

Alfred University Alumna Adrienne Metzinger ’98, who will perform as Skyler White in One World Symphony’s season finale entitled “Libera” on Monday, May 19, 2014 in New York City, is offering fellow alumni a special ticket offer for the performance.

Fine arts seniors get ready for shows

Visitors from throughout Western New York and beyond are invited to Alfred University (AU) on Saturday, May 10 for the opening of the annual Senior Shows from 4-7 p.m.

AU night in Boston!

Last week E-News announced that Patrick Owen Linders, AU Class of 2009, has been selected to be featured in the “30 Under 30: Spotlight Six,” an art exhibition opening with a public reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA.

David E. Sanger Times' national security correspondent to speak at Alfred University Commencement

David E. Sanger, national security correspondent for the New York Times, and author of a best-selling analysis of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, will deliver the commencement address at this year’s Alfred University graduation ceremonies, to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in McLane Center.  The University will also award a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, honoris causa, to Sanger.

First-year art and design students ask you to 'Listen Up'

Some 90 freshman art and design students in the Foundations program at Alfred University (AU) will show their work at an event titled “Listen Up, We’re Taking Attendance! A Foundations End of Year Exhibition” on Saturday, May 3 from 2-4 p.m. in their Cohen Studio Building, Main Street, Alfred. The event is free and open to the public.

Outstanding 2014 Seniors made the most of their four years of AU experiences

Kelly McNamara, a communication studies and sociology major with a minor in women’s and gender studies from Hurleyville, NY, and Kevin O’Connor, a biology major and environmental studies minor from South Portland, Maine, are this year’s recipients of the Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Awards at Alfred University (AU).

Interdisciplinary art seniors produce 'Basement Show'

The Alfred University (AU) Interdisciplinary Art (IART) Major welcomes viewers to attend the IART Senior Exhibition, highlighting the development of 10 artists who have been classmates and colleagues for the last four years.

“The Basement Show,” opening with a public reception Friday, May 9 from 5-8 p.m. in the Brick Studios Basement Gallery on campus, is a multimedia group exhibition featuring new work in drawing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, print, digital and neon installation, performance, and more.

Alumna's art world experiences heighten action in 'Kilned Again' e-book pages

Using her involvement with architectural ceramics, art history, and gallery experience, alumna Pamela Mattson McDonald, AU Class of 1978, has written a novel, “Kilned Again, A Jennifer Harrington Jones Mystery.”

Alumni artists in Beijing get noticed!

Nick Geankoplis, AU class of 2013, professor of ceramic art and design, China Central Academy of Fine Art, writes that he and four fellow alums recently created “a good bit of buzz in the art and design sphere” in news articles chronicling their April 19 open studio event.

Lemeland’s art takes flight on Massachusetts cable program

Lise Lemeland, associate professor of drawing, painting, and photography who is on leave in western Massachusetts, writes that she is “having a productive year” in her studio and her art has been featured on cable television in that state.
