AU softball team splits with Elmira 3/27/07
HORNELL, NY — The Alfred University softball team opened its Empire 8 schedule with a doubleheader split against visiting Elmira College Tuesday afternoon at Hornell High School. The Lady Saxons (8-8, 1-1 Empire 8) dropped the opener, 2-0, before bouncing back to take the nightcap, 11-2.
In the second game, freshman outfielder Mikki Senkow (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) went 3-for-4 with a homerun, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored to pace Alfred’s offensive attack. Freshman second baseman Jordan Siefer (Sylvania, OH/Sylvania Southview) had three hits, two RBIs and a run scored and freshman shortstop Karen Folts (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) and junior first baseman Amanda Muncy (Redding, CA/Enterprise) each had a pair of hits and a run scored. Freshman Rachelle Walsh (Corning, NY/Corning East) had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Freshman Holly Seidewand (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) got the win on the mound for AU, allowing two earned runs in four innings while striking out three and allowing four hits. She helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Muncy pitched two innings of hitless relief, striking out one. Catcher Natalie Lesieur had a solo homerun for Elmira (3-1, 1-1 Empire 8). Pitcher Kelli O’Connor took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on 16 hits while striking out two AU batters. AU freshman hurler Ilana Price (Wilton, CT/Brien McMahon) took the loss in the opener. Price was perfect through five innings and allowed only a single baserunner through six. But a pair of errors in seventh allowed Elmira to score two unearned runs. Price finished with seven strikeouts and no walks while allowing four hits. Folts, Seidewand, freshman third baseman Jesika LeBarron (Campbell, NY/Corning West) and freshman centerfielder Jessica Figallo (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) each had a base hit for Alfred. Danielle Rash went the distance on the mound to get the win for Elmira, striking out two and allowing four hits. Rightfielder Jennifer Strickler had a hit and a runs scored for the visitors, while shortstop Kerri Lavender and designated hitter Rachel Goddu each had a hit and one run driven in. Alfred is in action next on Thursday, March 29, at 3 p.m., when the Lady Saxons host Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference doubleheader at Hornell High School. |
