Charles Scheetz has been appointed Director of Financial Aid for Alfred University, joining Alfred University on Jan. 3 after a three-year tenure as Director of Student Financial Aid at Mansfield University, in Mansfield, Pa.

Sheetz, 33, is a native of Reading, Pa., earning his BA and MBA from Alvernia College and Alvernia University, in Reading. He currently is pursuing his doctorate in Educational Leadership through the University of New England.

His experience in the field of student financial aid includes serving as Financial Aid Counselor at Alvernia University, Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid Services at Ursinus College, in Collegeville, Pa., and Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Keuka College, in Keuka Park.

“It’s exciting to officially become a Saxon!” Scheetz said this week, praising the value Alfred University places on its work environment. “It’s rare that an institution of higher learning emphasizes its employees in its value statement.” He added, “Everyone at Alfred has been extremely welcoming, from the moment I stepped on-campus for my interview to arriving on my first official day as the new Director of Financial Aid.”

“I am thrilled to welcome Charles to Alfred University,” said Kathy Woughter, vice president of Student Affairs and interim vice president of Enrollment Management. “He describes himself as having a ‘new school’ approach to financial aid, and he has a strong interest in viewing aid as not just a way to help students get into Alfred University, but as a means for student success and financial literacy throughout their time as Saxon. Charles also brings outstanding technology skills to his position, as well as a student-centered focus and commitment.”

In welcoming Scheetz, Woughter also thanked Sheila Nelson-Hensley, who has served as interim director of financial aid since the retirement this summer of Earl Pierce as vice president of enrollment management. She also thanked members of the search committee that oversaw filling the directorship of financial aid: Nadine Shardlow (chair), Kathy Harkenrider, Amanda Ruscitto, Gilbert Safle, Linda Travers and Kristen Vargason.
