As You Like It, one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, is set in the Forest of Arden, where a host of young lovers wander, many in love-stricken confusion that is further muddled by disguises and roles the characters assume within the larger story. Memorable characters include the melancholy Jaques, who delivers the famous “All the world’s a stage” speech, and the dynamic Rosalind, the heroine of the play and one of Shakespeare’s most formidable creations.

With a wicked duke lurking in the background, As You Like It always contains an element of danger that threatens to upend the comic story. But as a comedy, it resolves its many conflicts with multiple weddings and peacemaking – just as you like it.
