Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members
4/21/17

Seventeen undergraduates and four graduate students were inducted Tuesday, April 4 into the Alfred University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Chapter President Stephen Crandall, dean of libraries and director of Herrick Library, presided over the induction ceremony, assisted by Chapter Treasurer Dr. Cris Lauback, associate professor of school psychology in the Alfred University Graduate School.

Graduate students inducted were Mary F. Cappotelli of LeRoy; Erin B. Carroll of Lima; Mandi C. Hochheimer of East Rochester; and Kalyssa R. Osgood of Horseheads.

Undergraduate students inducted from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences were Ashley M. Dressig of Wellsville; Elisabeth M. Estep of Binghamton; Gabrielle A. Longe of Monson, MA; Savannah A. Markajani of Newark; Julie L. Mulryan of Hinsdale; Allison C. Naclerio of Madison, CT; Rachel C. Pera of Kenmore; Beryl S.E. Torthe of Faerie Glen, South Africa; and Valerie H. Wach of Orchard Park.

Inducted from the College of Professional Studies were Taylor L. Sparks of Painted Post and Megan E. Steen of Portsmouth, RI.

Inducted from the School of Art and Design were Emma L. Percy of Clarence and Leah Zimmerman of Canandaigua.

Inducted from the School of Engineering were Joshua A. Benham of Buffalo; Ashley T. Lenau of Boston (New York); Adam T. Stark of Olean; and Liam G. Saccucci-Bryan of Trumansburg.

Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Its standards are second to none. The Greek letters of Phi Kappa Phi stand for the society’s motto, “Philosophia Krateito Photon,” which is freely translated, “Let the Love of Wisdom Rule Humanity.”

The Alfred University chapter was established in 1970. In its 48th annual initiation ceremony, held in the Herrick Library Bookend Lounge, the chapter honored the academic accomplishments of its newly inducted members.
