Student turnout for bone marrow donor registration 'impressive'
More than 200 Alfred University students registered as candidates for possible bone marrow donations at a registration drive organized by Alfred University’s Athletic Department and Saxon Football program.
The registration drive, held Wednesday in the Knight Club, was a partnership between the Athletic Department and Be the Match, an organization that supports research in bone marrow transplants used in the treatment of blood disorders such as leukemia.
Michael Barbin, a Be the Match representative who helped coordinate the Alfred University registration drive, said the number of students who volunteered Wednesday was impressive. “This is one of the highest percentages I’ve ever seen on any college campus,” Barbin said.
