Easy to see why Alfred University is among the best in nation for equestrian programs
Congratulations to the Alfred University riders who had a spectacular showing at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships this weekend!
Haley Ruffner, a sophomore from Allegany, NY, was the Reserve Championship in the American Quarter Horse Association AQHA Cup High Point Rider competition. That’s second in the nation in the event!
Taylor Soderholm of Tully, NY, also a sophomore, placed third in Western Intermediate Horsemanship
A third team member, Lauren Cole of Boston, NY, received an honorable mention in Walk-Trot-Canter in Hunt Seat Competition
The results are a credit to our students and our coaches, Harry Hurd and Steve Shank for the Western Riders, and Nancy Kohler Cunningham and Kelsey Moore for Hunt Seat. Competition is tough. Unlike NCAA, IHSA does not have divisions so Alfred University’s riders went against riders from colleges and universities across the country, big and small. Their efforts brought great honor to Alfred University, and also increased our visibility nationally. It is results like this that place Alfred University among the best collegiate equestrian programs in the nation.
The ISHA National Championships were in Lexington, KY, beginning Thursday and ending Sunday.
