Alfred University to award degrees to more than 140 students in Downstate Program Commencement
Alfred University next week will award master degrees and Certificates of Advanced Study to over 140 students who have completed their coursework in five graduate programs offered in partnership with the Center for Integrated Teacher Education (CITE) in the greater New York City area.
The 10th commencement ceremony will held on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, where almost1000 family members, friends and downstate faculty are expected to attend the event.
Ninety-two students in the counseling program, the largest class in that program’s history, will receive master degrees in school counseling and mental health counseling. The master of public administration program graduated 25 students; master of education in literacy, 25 students; and the advanced certificate program in mental health counseling, 14 students. .
President Mark Zupan will preside over the ceremony, with Dr. Richard Stephens, Provost, and Dr. Jay Cerio, Dean of External Programs, assisting in the awarding of degrees. The commencement speaker will be Alfred University Trustee Robert Meltzer, a 1960 graduate of the university. Meltzer will be honored with the Alfred University Order of Merit for his support of the university’s campus and NYC area programs.
