Alfred Ceramic Art Museum coordinating Gallery Hop with local galleries, MostArts

Wednesday, July 12 will be a big day and evening of arts celebration in the Village of Alfred and on the Alfred University campus, as The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum partners with three local art galleries — and a local wine shop — in a new event called The Gallery Hop.

Gallery Hop will coordinate common hours of operations between the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum and art galleries on the University campus and in the Village on the fourth day of the annual MostArts festival.

The Cohen Gallery, 55 N. Main St.; Gallery 2 Gifts of Distinction, 43 N. Main St.; and the Robert C. Turner Gallery, in Alfred University’s Harder Hall, will be open from 5:30 to 7 p.m. In addition, interns at the galleries will conduct docent-led tours for the benefit of visitors. The tours begin at 6 p.m. at the Cohen Gallery.

Meanwhile, from 6 to 9 p.m., the Alfred Ceramic Museum will host Music under the Stars, an evening of outdoor barbecue, classical music and the museum’s extraordinary collection of ceramic art.

Finally, throughout Gallery Hop, complimentary wine tastings will be offered at SOS Liquor and Wine on Main Street.

After its maiden voyage this summer, Gallery Hop will return in the fall under a new name, Alfred Art Walk, to celebrate the rich tradition of studio and fine arts at Alfred University and in the Alfred community. The idea, according to Caitlin Brown, operations and program manager at the Alfred Ceramic Museum, is to encourage the public to recognize Alfred as an arts destination.

The annual MostArts festival, which begins on the Alfred University campus Sunday, July 9, will host a noon chamber music concert on July 12, plus the Young Pianist Competition beginning at 2 p.m. in Miller Theater.

MostArts will wrap up the festival with a Gala Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in Miller Theater. However, the festival will host a variety of classical music concerts on every day of the festival. For a list of MostArts events, visit:
