Edmondson asks for moment of silence in memory of Virginia Tech shooting victims
4/17/07

On many levels – as a president of Alfred University, as a person who has spent his career working with and teaching young adults, and as a parent – I am deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech Monday. I know I speak for the entire Alfred University community in expressing our sympathy to those all those affected by the deaths.

Virginia Tech will have a convocation at 2 p.m. today to help their community deal with the tragedy; we will broadcast the convocation at Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall, and I encourage you to attend. Our carillon bells, along with those at colleges and universities across the country, will toll at 2 p.m. in memory of the slain students and faculty members. Even if you are unable to attend the broadcast of the convocation today, I ask that when you hear the bells, you observe a moment of silence for those whose lives were taken and for those whose lives are devastated by the losses they now face.

Charles M. Edmondson, president
Alfred University
