Visting Stevens knocks off AU women’s basketball team

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team fell, 65-42, to visiting Stevens Tech Friday evening at the McLane Center.

Stevens shot 42 percent from the field and held AU to 26-percent shooting as the visiting Ducks improved to 11-2 on the year (3-1 Empire 8).

Sophomore point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) and senior forward Melanie Jackson (Andover, NY/Wellsville) each scored a game-high 19 points to lead Alfred (6-6, 1-4 Empire 8). Jackson added seven rebounds and Murphy a pair of assists. Junior forward Hannah Meier (Rochester, NY/Greece-Odyssey) had a team-high eight boards for Alfred and freshman guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) had seven.

Paige Armstrong led Stevens with 12 points and six rebounds, while Dani Dudek (six rebounds, three assists), Sarah Gehring (seven boards, three assists) and Brittany Fuller (game-high nine rebounds) each netted 11.

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. at home against RIT.
