Saxons ties school record for consecutive dual-meet wins; AU women’s team falls

SYRACUSE, NY – The Alfred University men’s swimming and diving team defeated host LeMoyne Saturday afternoon, 198-96. It was the Saxons’ 28th straight dual meet win, tying the school record set in 1989. The AU women lost their matchup with LeMoyne, 177-116.

The Alfred men (7-0, 4-0 Empire 8) got three individual wins from senior Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) and two each from seniors Mark Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), and junior Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond).

Agro won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley; Mark Baker took the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and took second in the 200-yard free; Matt Baker won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke and placed second in the 200-yard IM; and Chambliss swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

Other event winners for AU were sophomores Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) in 200-yard butterfly, Matt Lobban (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) in the 1,000-yard free, and Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) in the 500-yard free.

Junior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) took second in the 100-yard and 500-yard free; senior Tyler Monroe (Conesus, NY/Livonia) was second in the 1,000-yard free; senior Scott Sarkissian (Oswego, NY/Oswego) was second in the 200-yard fly; Mix was second in the 100-yard fly; and junior Sipol Smakpunt (Colorado Springs, CO/Sierra) was second in 1-meter diving.

The team of Matt Baker, Agro, Mix and Mark Baker won the 200-yard medley relay.

The AU men will try to break the school consecutive dual meet win record when they host Geneseo on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.

Event winners for the AU women against LeMoyne were senior Jessie Caccamo (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) in the 500-yard freestyle; sophomore Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) in the 50-yard freestyle; senior Brynja Seagren (Bradford, PA/Bradford) in 1-meter diving; and sophomore Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) in 3-meter diving.

Caccamo also took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle; Blair was third in the 100-yard freestyle; and Caldwell was second in 1-meter diving. Sophomore Laura Smith (Pine Island, NY/Warwick Valley) was second in 3-meter diving; freshman Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) was second in the 100-yard backstroke; and senior Amy Buisman (Rochester, NY/Penfield) was second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.

The AU women (3-5, 1-3 Empire 8) are in action next on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at home against Geneseo.
