AU indoor track and field teams perform at RIT Invitational
ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the RIT Invitational meet. There were no team scores.
Senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) and junior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) each placed in the top five to pace the Alfred men. Jezek took fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.42 seconds) and Consolo was fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.05 seconds), while Ross placed fifth in the shot put (13.92 meters).
Freshman Ben Pelto (Jefferson, MA/West Boylston) took 13th in the 400-meter dash (55.58 seconds) and junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) was 16th in the 200-meter dash (24.51 seconds).
Junior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) led the AU women with her seventh-place finish in the 1,000-meter run (3:22.35). She also took 11th in the mile run (5:45.84). The Lady Saxons’ other top-10 came from sophomore Melissa Haahr (Tioga, NY/Owego), 10th in the 800-meter run (2:37.40).
Other top performers for the AU women were freshman Sarah Foster (Adelaide, Australia/Sparta, NJ), 13th in the high jump (1.42 meters); junior McKenzie Clemens (Lowville, NY/Lowville), 17th in the mile (5:58.79) and 18th in the 3,000-meter run (12:04.85); and sophomore Jen Chan (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley).
AU is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. Lawrence.
