Geneseo snaps Saxons’ dual-meet win streak; Lady Saxons also fall

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s swimming and diving saw its school record-tying 28-meet winning streak end Friday night as visiting Geneseo edged the Saxons, 125-118. The Geneseo women’s team beat the AU women’s team, 133-92.

For the Alfred men, it was the team’s first duat-meet loss since Hartwick defeated the Saxons in February 2006. The 28-meet winning streak ties the mark set in 1989.

Alfred got wins from senior Mark Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle; senior Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) in the 200-yard free and 200-yard backstroke; and senior Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) in the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke. Matt Baker’s time of 1:43.62 in the 200 free established a new AU pool record.

The Saxons swept the relays. Matt Baker, Agro, sophomore Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) and junior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) teamed to take the 400-yard medley relay, while Mark Baker, freshman Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University), sophomore Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoiga) and Brisson won the 400-yard medley relay.

Sophomore Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to lead the AU women. The Lady Saxons’ other win came from senior Jessie Caccamo (Ballson Lake, NY/Shenendehowa), in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Senior Brynja Seagren (Bradford, NY/Bradford) took second in both diving events, and sophomore Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.

AU is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at home against Hartwick.
