Touring company of popular troupe bringing comedy to AU
1/30/09

On Friday Feb. 6, Alfred University will host the touring company of the nationally popular comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) beginning at 8 p.m. in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall. Admission is free.

The troupe began in Chicago in 1990 and eventually moved to New York City and Los Angeles, forming the two current UCB Theaters. The troupe’s improvisational comedy ranks graduated such stars as Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, and many of today’s current “Saturday Night Live” stars.

Come out and meet the next wave of UCB comics, including Gavin Speiller, Anthony King, Brandon
Gardner, and Amber Petty, who are poised to become stars.

The mission of Upright Citizens Brigade is dedicated to fostering both an appreciation and education of the arts through affordable and high quality comedic performances and classes.

Named “Hot Farm Team” by Rolling Stone magazine and “Best Comedy Club” by AOL, the UCB Theatre is widely recognized as home to today’s funniest actors and writers. Alumni include several performers and writers for “Saturday Night Live,” “The Office,” “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart, “The Late Show” with David Letterman, “Late Night” with Conan O'Brien, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “30 Rock,” “Best Week Ever,” “Old School,” “Blades of Glory,” “Semi-Pro,” and countless other films, commercials, and television shows. Performers who have gained success continue to lend their talents to the theater and training center.
