AU men’s swimming and diving team beats Hartwick; Saxon women fall

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s swimming and diving team beat visiting Hartwick, 130-98, Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool in Alfred’s final home meet of the season. Hartwick’s women’s team defeated the Alfred women, 148-83.

The AU men improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in Empire 8 Conference, wrapping up their third straight season unbeaten in Empire 8 dual meets. The last time the Saxons lost a dual meet to a conference opponent was in February 2006, to Hartwick.

Sophomore Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga), junior Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), and seniors Mark Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) and Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) each won two events for the Saxon men. Olsen took the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle; Chambliss swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving; Mark Baker won the 50-yard and 100-yard free; Matt Baker won the 1,000-yard free and 200-yard backstroke; and Agro won the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke.

The Saxons won both relays. Mark Baker, Agro, sophomore Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) and freshman Andrew Moragne (Cleveland, OH/University) won the 400-yard medley relay, while Mark Baker, Matt Baker, Olsen and junior Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) claimed the 400-yard free relay.

The AU women fell to 3-7 overall (1-4 Empire 8). Sophomore Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was the AU women’s lone race winner, taking the 50-yard freestyle. She also placed third in the 100-yard free.

Senior Jessie Caccamo (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) was third in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle; sophomore Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was second in 1-meter and 3-meter diving; senior Brynja Seagren (Bradford, PA/Bradford) was third in each of the diving events; and freshman Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) was third in the 200-yard backstroke.

The AU men and women wrap up their dual-meet schedule next Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at St. Lawrence.
