Art dean to present discussion, photo workshop at St. Bonaventure University

Joseph S. Lewis III, dean of the School of Art & Design at Alfred University, will be featured in “Photo Alchemy,” a discussion and workshop event at the Quick Center for the Arts, St. Bonaventure University, on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.

Lewis and special guest Ivan Dalla Tana will be showing examples of their latest photographic work. Lewis and Dalla Tana will then lead a black-and-white alternative process workshop where attendees will participate in producing original photographs.

A nationally known artist, arts administrator, educator, and author, Lewis came to Alfred University from the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City, where he was dean for three years. Prior to that, Lewis was chairman of the Art Department at California State University Northridge for six years and was a tenured professor, teaching visual arts.

He is a member of the board of directors of California Lawyers for the Arts and a full member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Lewis earned a master of fine arts degree from Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, and a bachelor of arts degree from Hamilton College, Clinton, NY.
