MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The NCAA has announced the schedule of events for the 2009 Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, in which Alfred University seniors Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) and Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) are set to compete.

The NCAA championships are being held Wednesday-Saturday, March 18-21, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center and are hosted by Macalester College.

Baker will compete in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke (two events for which he met NCAA qualifying standards) and the 200-yard freestyle (his optional event). Agro qualified to compete in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley and will compete in the 200-yard breaststroke as an optional event.

Preliminary and final heats are held for each event, with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening. The top eight fastest swimmers in the preliminary rounds advance to the evening finals and earn All-American certification. Swimmers placing ninth-16th automatically earn honorable mention All-American certification.

Agro swims the 200-yard IM on Wednesday; the 100-yard breast on Friday; and the 200-yard breast on Saturday. Baker swims the 200-yard freestyle Thursday; the 100-yard back on Friday; and the 200-yard back on Saturday.

Baker is competing in NCAAs for the third time; he has earned honorable mention All-American honors in the 100-yard back in each of the last two national meets. This is Agro’s first NCAA championship meet.
