Seniors to host two alternative energy workshops

Jenny Urfer and Sam Newman, both seniors at Alfred University, are hosting two alternative energy workshops on two consecutive Saturdays. The sessions will take place in the King David Room at the Union University Church, 29 N. Main St., Alfred, from 1to 4 p.m., on March 28 and April 11.

The programs are open to the public free of charge through funding from the School of Art and Design and the Environmental Studies Department at Alfred University.

The first workshop, on Saturday, March 28, will focus on solar power, while the second, on Saturday, April 11, will focus on wind power. Each workshop will focus on the assembly of a small but complete generation system which will model the components needed for home use.

The events will begin with a short presentation on electricity, followed by hands-on assembly of a generation system. There will also be open discussion with short presentations by local residents and professionals who work and live with wind and solar power.

Urfer is an art & design major from Newton, CT. Newman, from Lewis Center, Ohio, is pursuing a master's degree in business administration.
