COLUMBIA, MD -- Six members of the Alfred University men’s outdoor track and field team traveled to Columbia, MD, Saturday to compete in a meet hosted by Howard Commnity College. There were no team scores, but the AU contingent performed well.

Three Saxons won events: junior Lee Consolso (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) in the 400-meter run (51.09 seconds); senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) in the 110-meter hurdles (15.88 seconds); and sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) in the shot put (14.24 meters).

Jezek also took second in the pole vault (13.06 feet) and Ross took third in the discus throw (36.17 meters). Junior Travis Cox (Ashaway, RI/Westerly) was third in the shot put (12.37 meters, and junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook , NY/Ichabod Crane) was eighth in the 400 meters (53.99 seconds)
