Ceramics arts exhibit displays pieces from 'the permanent collection'
All are invited to the reception for the exhibition “from the permanent collection,” located in the Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art on the top floor of Binns-Merrill Hall, Alfred University. The event is scheduled on Thursday, April 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The reception will celebrate the exhibition of selected ceramic pieces from Alfred’s own vast collection and will be on display until Friday, April 17, 2009. Refreshments will be served.
The exhibition consists of ceramic pieces from China, England, Germany, Japan. and the United States. The exhibition was curated by Susan Kowalczyk from the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibit includes approximately 30 pieces ranging across countries and centuries: Han Dynasty, Chinese jar; 19th century English Staffordshire Ware butter tub; 1930s black-on-black San Ildefonso Pueblo jar by Maria and Julian Martinez; 2006 vessel by Germany’s, Ursula Scheid; 1950s vase by Japanese artist, Rosanjin Kitaoji.
The exhibit also features the work of Paul Soldner, Lucy Lewis, Silvie Granatelli, Kris Nelson, Glen Lukens, Yukiko Ito, Ka-Kwong Hui, Ken Ferguson, Shuji Kawai, Chuck Hindes, Jan Hoag, and Frank Ozereko, among many others.
The exhibit is open Wednesday’s through Friday’s, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The reception and exhibit are open to the public, free of charge.
