AU outdoor track and field teams compete at Alfred State quad-meet

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed Friday at a quad-meet hosted by Alfred State College.

AU competed against host Alfred State, Erie Community College, and Finger Lakes Community College. The Alfred men placed third and the AU women were fourth.

Juniors Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Travis Cox (Ashaway, RI/Westerly) each had wins for the Alfred men. Consolo won the 800-meter run (2:02.30) and Cox claimed the javelin throw (41.51 meters).

Other top performers for the AU men were: junior Jesse Schuster (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda), third in the 1,500 meter run (4:26.00); senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg), third in the pole vault (3.96 meters); sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga), third in the discus (38.12 meters); freshman Anthony DeGroat (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), third in the triple jump (12.47 meters); and sophomore Markenson Joseph (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional), third in the hammer throw (29.8 meters).

Junior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) and sophomores Emily Merkey (Walworth, NY/Wayne) and Melissa Haahr (Tioga, NY/Owego) each won events for the Alfred women. Crimmins won the 1,500-meter run (5:09.40); Merkey won the javelin (17.36 meters); and Haahr won the 800-meter run (2:33.90).

Freshman Anne Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) was second (17.3 seconds) and third (1:26.40), respectively, in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Jen Chan (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) was third in the 800 meters (2:39.50).

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 4, at Muhlenberg.
