St. John Fisher knocks off AU women’s lacrosse team, 15-5

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team lost to St. John Fisher, 15-5, Saturday afternoon, at Merrill Field.

St. John Fisher outshot AU in the first half 32-2, and led 9-2 lead at intermission. The Saxons (3-2, 0-2 Empire 8) first goal came after six minutes had passed in the first half, with junior attack Emily Tobin (Penfield, NY/ Penfield) assisting on goal by sophomore attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/ Horseheads).

Adams converted three goals in the game while picking up three groundballs. Sophomore midfielder Alyson Klopp (Derby, NY/Lakeshore) scored Alfred’s other two goals, while dishing out one assist. Junior defender Emily Steen (South Pasadena, CA/Purnell School) assisted on an Adams goal to close out the scoring, and also picked up two groundballs.

For Fisher (3-4, 1-1 Empire 8), Jen Springett scored a game-high four goals while picking up three groundballs. Mary Stimson and Meg Merriam each scored three goals.

Sophomore goalie Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) recorded 14 saves while tallying a game-high nine groundball for AUs. Vicki Sahm stopped two shots while picking up seven groundballs for Fisher.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at home against Empire 8 opponent Nazareth.
