Nazareth downs Lady Saxons, 15-6

ALFRED, NY — Visiting Nazareth College handed the Alfred University women’s lacrosse team a 15-6 loss Sunday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Nazareth led 9-3 at the half as the visitors outshot AU 23-7 in the game’s first 30 minutes. Nazareth (6-3, 2-1 Empire 8) outscored AU 6-3 after the halftime break and finished the contest with a 40-14 shots advantage. Alfred (3-3, 0-3 Empire 8) had 32 turnovers to 19 for the Golden Flyers.

Sophomore attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had two goals to lead Alfred. Junior attack Emily Tobin (Penfield, NY/Penfield) had a goal and an assist and sophomore midfielder Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) had two assists. Junior defender Lisa Button (Troupsburg, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg), junior attack Abbey Schaffnit (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) and sophomore midfielder Allyson Klopp (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) each scored one goal for AU.

Nora Davis had a game-high five goals to pace Nazareth. Michelle Cook had two goals and three assists and Stephanie Cash (one assist) and Kara Kulba each had two goals.

Sophomore Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made 17 saves in goal for Alfred, while Nazareth goalie Maria Fusco stopped six shots.

Alfred is in next on Friday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at home against Hartwick.
