AU outdoor track and field teams compete at Muhlenburg College
Sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga), senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) and freshman Anthony DeGroat (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) each had top-10 performances to lead the AU men. Ross was second in the shot put (14.39 meters); Jezek was sixth in the pole vault (13 feet); and DeGroat was eighth in the triple jump (12.65 meters).
Other top performers for the Saxon men were junior Jesse Schuster (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda), 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:55); Jezek, third in his 110-meter hurdles heat (15.37 seconds); junior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville), second in his 800-meter run section (2:01.8); DeGroat, third in his heat of the 100-meter dash (11.33 seconds); and freshman Ben Pelto (Jefferson, MA/West Boylston), first in his section of the 800-meter run (2:07.50).
Consolo, Jezek, freshman Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) and junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NYT/Ichabod Crane) were third in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time of 3:25.10 qualified them to compete at the Penn Relays on April 25 and also at the ECAC outdoor championships May 14.
Sophomore Melissa Haahr (Tioga, NY/Owego) won her section of the 800-meter run (2:31.40) to lead the AU women.
Freshman Anne Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) was third in her section of the 100-meter hurdles (17.1 seconds) and sophomore Jen Chan (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) was fifth in her section of the 800-meter run (2:39.10). Freshman Tiffany Buck (Freeport, ME/Freeport) was 13th in her section of the 1,500-meter run (6:07).
Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, April 7, at the Highlander Invitational, host by Houghton College.
