AU student to demonstrate his 'body of art'
4/21/09

An Alfred University student makes tattooing into an art form, as well as a business, and hopes to encourage others to do the same.

Luke LoPorto will offer a workshop on tattooing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Career Development Center in the Steinheim on the Alfred University campus. The workshop is aimed at those interested in tattooing as a business, and as an art form.

Kevin Jacobs, career specialist who works with AU’s art students, explained LoPorto left the BFA program after his freshman year to work with a master tattoo artist. He’s now returned to complete his degree. “Luke will be presenting how to navigate a career in the tattoo industry, and the differences between a good and poor parlor,” said Jacobs. LoPorto will also conduct a demonstration.

LoPorto, now a sophomore in the School of Art & Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, is a son of Francis LoPorto of Melville, NY, and Elisa Barilla of Huntington Station, NY.
