Outdoor track teams compete at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University outdoor track and field teams competed Thursday at Roberts Wesleyan. There were no teams scores.

Junior Megan Crimmins (Horsheads, NY/Horseheads) and freshman Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (watertown, MA/Watertown) paced the AU women with second-place finishes, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run (4:59.90) and 5,000-meter run (19:33.80). Sophomore Emily Merkey (Walworth, NY/Wayne) took second on the javein (16.77 meters).

For the AU men, junior Travis Cox (Ashaway, RI/Westerly) was second in the hammer throw (ECAC-qualifying 47.77 meters) and fourth in the shot put (12.61 meters). Freshman Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) was second in the triple jump (12.63 meters).

Several members of the men's and women's teams will now compete in the ECAC outdoor championships Thursday and Friday, may 14 and 15, in Springfield, MA.

Men's team members who have qualified for the ECAC meet are: junior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) in the 400-meter dash; sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) in the shot put; Cox in the hammer throw; and senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) in the 110-meter hurdles. Jezek, freshman Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) and freshman Anthony DeGroat (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) will compete in the 4X100-meter relay and Consolo, Scott, Phillips and Jezek will run in the 4X400-meter relay.

Freshman Annie Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) is the sole AU woman to earn a spot in the ECACs. She will compete in the 100-meter hurdles.
