Saxons wrap up season at ECAC outdoor championships

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Alfred University men's and women's track and field teams concluded the 2009 season at the ECAC outdoor championships, held Thursday and Friday at Springfield College.

The AU men's team placed 44th, with its 4X400-meter relay team setting a new school record, while the Alfred women did not post a team score.

Sophomore Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) paced the AU men's team with a fifth-place in the shot put (14.78 meters). Senior Erik Jezek (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) earned Alfred's other top-10 finish, taking ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.67 seconds).

Junior Lee Consolo (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) was 13th in the 400-meter dash (49.83 seconds) and junior Travis Cox (Ashaway, RI/Westerly) was 15th in the hammer throw (46.83 meters).

Jezek, freshman Richard Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), junior Matt Phillips (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) and freshman Anthony DeGroat (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) took 15th in the 4X100-meter relay (43.70 seconds) and Consolo, Scott, Phillips and Jezek placed 13th in the 4X400-meter relay with a new school record time of 3:21.01.

Freshman Annie Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) was the lone representative from the AU women's team. She took 21st in the 100-meter hurdles (18.50 seconds).
