‘Singing CPA’ featured in CPA Magazine
6/11/09

Steven Zelin, AU class of 1998, AKA “The Singing CPA,” is featured on the front cover and in a six-page article of the June/July 2009 issue of CPA Magazine.

Zelin, whose picture appears on the cover strumming his guitar, is quoted throughout the magazine from a recent interview. When talking about his background, Zelin says “In 1998 I graduated from Alfred University with a B.S. in Accounting. Of about 15 job offers, I narrowed them down to two—Arthur Andersen and Pricewaterhouse. I wasn’t very good at shredding documents, so I chose Pricewaterhouse.”

Zelin also comments on the latest incentives for small business clients such as the ability to “expense up to $250,000 worth of business equipment the year it’s placed in service. For other equipment, clients can claim 50 percent of the asset’s basis as bonus depreciation.” The net operating loss provision was expanded to allow a company to go back five years for losses incurred instead of only two years. This means they can get refunds for taxes paid during those last five years.

Zelin offers AU alumni a 15 percent discount on his firm’s CPA services, which include financial statement audits, reviews, compilations, individual and corporate tax returns, bookkeeping and CFO-To-Go services.
