Cross Country teams open strong at Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University cross country teams each had solid showings in their season-opening meet Saturday at SUNY Oswego.

The AU women, running in the 4.5-kilometer Pat Peterson Invitational, finished second of seven teams competing. The Alfred men finished fourth out of seven teams in the 6K Don Masterson Invitational.

Senior Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) was the top AU women’s runner, placing eighth with a time of 18:04. Sophomore Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) was 15th in 18:25; junior Jen Chan (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) was 19th in 18:32; freshman Linsey Laserte (Westminster, MA/Oakmont Regional) was 22nd in 18:45; and junior Kate Lepore (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was 28th in 19:07).

The top runner for the Saxon men was senior Corey Smith (Albion, NY/Albion), who was 30th with a time of 21:32. Sophomore Kenny Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) placed 36th in 21:42, while senior Jim Thierman (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) was 38th in 21:54.

Alfred’s men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Fredonia.
